Tillamook High School

This project is a major remodel of Tillamook’s 1950’s era high school in an effort to bring vitality back to the building that acts as a community hub. The project entailed a roof redesign for the 116,000 sq. ft. high school; a total revamping of the existing mechanical system; and new energy efficient exterior windows. A sloping roof to be constructed over the existing roof line created a new mechanical mezzanine ideal for resisting the damp and corrosive coastal environment. New masonry piers provide structural support as well as enhancing the shape of the building’s exterior. The entrance is defined by a large covered entry canopy and commanding columns. These key architectural elements give the high school a new presence and instill pride in the students, staff, and community. Improvements have essentially extended the useful life of the building for another 50 years. Location: Tillamook, Oregon
